The world, happening now.

A little elsewhere, whenever you need it.

Meanwhile is an independent project for exploring the world through live cameras. Open the map, choose a collection or let the next view surprise you. Stay for a minute, or a little longer.

For the curious, for those who miss a place, and for anyone who wants a quiet break: a real place, with its own light, weather and rhythm.

Follow your curiosity. Follow the light.

Move from a beach to a busy street, from a harbour to a mountain landscape. Golden Hour follows the sun to find views around dawn and sunset. City lights draws attention to urban cameras after dark.

You can also look at Earth from the International Space Station or discover underwater views. These broadcasts depend on their operators, schedules and conditions; there is not always a live picture.

Make the moment your own.

Save favourite views in your browser, read about a place or test your eye in Explorer Challenge. You can add music or an ambient sound through Soundscape. Those sounds are a separate layer you control, not a recording of the place on screen.

Made possible by people who share a view.

The cameras belong to their broadcasters: local organisations, hotels, observatories, scientific institutions and people who open a window onto their surroundings. Meanwhile brings their views together and links back to the source.

A stream may pause, change address or go offline. Some broadcasts are scheduled, and saved preview images are not live footage. Found something that needs attention? A precise report helps keep the collection useful.
